Leading the fight for Affordable Housing

Working with the leading affordable housing advocate in New Jersey, Councilman At-Large Rolando Lavarro introduced an inclusionary zoning ordinance that fights gentrification to build new affordable homes as part of new residential projects. However, the rubberstamp Council hijacked the process and colluded with the Mayor, and the 7-2 City Council passed an affordable housing law that was a developer’s dream, full of loopholes and buyouts.

Councilman Lavarro pushed back hard along with other community and housing advocates. Housing advocates sued the City, and the courts recently struck down that sham IZO, vindicating the fight that advocates and Councilman Lavarro waged.
